Toronto Police are investigating the Mario Ferreira homicide following a deadly assault near Queen’s Park Crescent and College Street.

Emergency services responded to the area shortly after 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Officers located a man with visible injuries lying on the ground. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead on scene. He has been identified as 60-year-old Mario Ferreira of Toronto.

Mario Ferreira homicide marks the city’s fifth homicide of 2025. Police obtained video footage from nearby cameras and quickly began canvassing the area for witnesses.

Victim Targeted While Sitting on Bench

According to investigators, Mario Ferreira was sitting on a bench outside 6 Queen’s Park Crescent when he was approached and assaulted. The suspect reportedly used an object during the attack, which appeared unprovoked. After the assault, the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a male with a medium to large build, weighing approximately 200 pounds. He has a black beard and short dreadlocks. During the incident, he wore a beige camouflage short sleeve shirt, black pants, black shoes, and carried a black and blue backpack.

Suspect Considered Dangerous

Police have released surveillance images of the suspect. They warn the public not to approach him if seen. Instead, call 911 immediately. Officers are urging anyone with information to come forward.
